I owe the English readers of my blog an apology for not even telling them that I found a job. I have been working full time for three weeks now.
It has been quite a switch. Learning full-time Chinese is intensive, but you go to class only in the mornings; the afternoons are for yourself to exercise and I had could also do all the daily things. Some of you may have noted that I am hardly ever on MSN any more. I now work from 9 to 6, and on Mondays and Thursdays, I follow that with 2.5 hours of Chinese classes.
Nevertheless I enjoy my time. I am working at CARTUS as an intercultural training specialist. The company CARTUS helps companies to move their staff internationally, arranging things like the moving, selling of employees’ houses and finding new accommodation. My department provides language and intercultural trainings all over the Asia-Pacific region. I am thus sometimes organizing trainings in Melbourne and Shanghai at the same time.
Those careful readers will have noticed that my company name is not the same as in the previous post. That is because it was renamed in the last week of May, from Cendant Mobility to CARTUS.
My team is really very international. Among 13 staff, we have living experience in 23 countries and many nationalities. I have one colleague with whom I share the workload, and she is French-Brazilian.
It now seems that after a turbulent 9 months, things finally settle. In the mean while, Yiran has come to Holland, we visited Paris, Copenhagen, Berlin and Italy, I have graduated, said goodbye to my friends, taken a one-way flight to Singapore, found an apartment with Yiran and furnished it, learnt Chinese up to a basic level, joined several clubs and gotten to know many new people and finally found a job. It has been turbulent and adventurous, but for now I certainly won't regret adjusting to a life that is slightly more tranquil.
